

Myth upon the origin of Kerala, as a land piece extends back to pre-histric period or more rightly epic period.Indian phylosophy revolves around a trinity faith of Brahma(creator),Vishnu(Preservance/maintainer)Shiva(end/destruction).Lord Vishnu re-incarnate many times to save universe from the evil forces.He believed to have taken many forms of life for one reason or other.it include Matsya(Fish) Koorma(Tortoise) Varaha(Pig) Narasimha(Man with Lion face)Vamana(Dwarf Man) Ram(Lord Parashu Ram) Rama(Lord Ram)Bala Rama and Janardhana(Krishna).Lord Parashu Ram was always ego tic and ferocious in nature one day he was set to take river bath, when, he found flood all of a sudden. He was informed that Karthyaveerarjuna, thousand armed King was also taking perverted water bath along with his accomplice and women nearby so flood like situation disturbed his holy bath. Naturally altercation happened subsequently lord caught hold of him and amputated his all arms. His fury did not finish so went on killing spree and finished almost all kings of his period.

But he was a saint did not have an inch of land of his own. He eloped to southwestern part of India and started Panancea along the present day Arabian Sea shore. Lord of Sea, Lord Varuna appeared before him sought his cause of worry, who agreed to withdraw to certain extend so Kerala emerged from sea. Later Ram gifted this piece of land to fourty four Brahmin families and attained salvation. “Kera” means Coconut so kerala, land of coconuts. This reclaimed land of kerala was uninhabitable due to salinity. Human life was impossible then Ram brought Snakes so as to trill the land and bring down salinity. Even today keralites are snake worshippers. It has three famous snake temples dedicated to Anantha, Vasuki and Thakshakan.Anantha is seat of Lord Vishnu, Vasuki necklace of Lord Shiva (Maheshwara)and Thakshaka is the king of snakes’ world. Two in Alleppey district (Mannarashala.and Vettikkodu) and one in Trichur district
(Pampinmekkavu).In Mannarashala Miracles are believed to happen even today. Issueless couples worships Mannarashala deity and are getting offspring in many cases.
